Ministers and Staff

The ministers at Getty Street have the primary focus of preaching and teaching God’s word in truth and love (2 Timothy 4:1-5).  These men have the blessing of being able to study the scriptures and lead the members into a deeper understanding of the will of God (Ephesians 5:17).  In addition, these men love the people as individuals and want to be part of their lives.  Ultimately, their goal is to help reconcile people to God.

2 Corinthians 5:18-19 – “All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And He has committed to us the message of reconciliation.”

Pulpit Minister

Al Washington is a native of West Palm Beach, FL. He is an alumnus of the University of Florida, as well as a graduate of the Southwest School of Bible Studies (Austin, TX). His ministerial experience includes pulpit preaching for University Hills church of Christ (Austin, TX), Central church of Christ (Pflugerville, TX), Killeen church of Christ (Killeen, TX) and Luling church of Christ (Luling, TX). He also filled the pulpit for Getty Street between 2017 and 2018 during preacher search efforts. Besides preaching, Al also serves as an online Bible school instructor for World Video Bible School (Maxwell, TX) and has worked with this brotherhood organization over the last 12 years in an ongoing effort to produce audio-visual Bible study tools to help equip the Lord’s church to carry the gospel into all the world (Mark 16:15). Al has been married to his wife Rhonda for 27 years. She is also a Florida native and works as a school psychologist in the Austin area. They have two sons: Zachary, age 23, who is currently a senior airman in the United States Air Force (JBMDL, NJ); and Gabriel, a 14 year-old eighth-grader at Brentwood Christian School in Austin. According to Al, “Just like everything else in life, congregational work has its challenges. But there is no greater honor and privilege than to work for the Lord in preparing myself, my family and my spiritual brethren for the eternal reward that awaits us when He returns. Until then, let’s work Getty Street!”

Spanish Minister

Joe Perez and his wife Yolanda have 7 children and 7 grandchildren. They are both devoted to the Lord and have been members of Getty Street Church of Christ for all of their married life. Joe worked as a construction and land surveyor for 40 years until the opportunity arose to serve as Spanish minister here. Yolanda is a homemaker and serves in different capacities for the church. Both enjoy traveling and visiting family all over Texas. Joe’s training comes from 16 years of sitting at the feet of one of the best Gospel preachers – his predecessor, Ben Padilla. Joe says that these are BIG shoes to fill, but “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me” (Philippians 4:13).

Youth Minister

Andrew Martinez is from Carrizo Springs, TX and Kayla is from Trinity, AL. They met in 2015 in Sevierville, TN at a Christian workshop called “Polishing the Pulpit.” They were married 5 years later on August 8, 2020. Before that, Andrew worked as the preacher for the church of Christ in Carrizo Springs for 4 years (where he currently preaches on Sundays while working with Getty Street on Wednesdays). He then studied at the Memphis School of Preaching before moving back to Texas with Kayla after their marriage. Kayla is a proud keeper of the home and works alongside Andrew in his ministry. Together, they share a love of the Lord and a passion for teaching His Word.

Church Secretary

Running a church is no small task.  We are extremely blessed to have Lynda Campbell as our secretary.  She knows the ins and outs of our church and goes above and beyond any job description.  At times she comes in early and stays late to make sure that so many of the details are taken care of.  Her service to the Lord is greatly appreciated.

Colossians 3:23-24 – “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”
